Already planning your next-next lease? Mercedes-Benz has you covered with a new and very-pre-announced AMG GLE 53 plug-in hybrid. The AMG GLE 53 is coming for the 2026 model year and will be on sale "later" in 2025 (later than what? than you wish, we guess). The AMG GLE 53 comes in SUV and Coupe styling. Pricing has not yet been announced, but the current AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+ starts at $88,060.
The highlight here is a massive 31.2kWh battery. That's 34% larger capacity than the current GLE 450e, which is rated for 38 all-electric miles. Mercedes-Benz isn't giving official range estimates yet, but we'd expect it to be somewhere in the 45-50 range. That would put the AMG GLE 53 at the top of the list for plug-in SUVs.
The AMG GLE 53 supports DC fast-charging at 60kW. With Mercedes-Benz adopting Tesla's NACS standard, we'd expect the AMG GLE 53 to use the new plug as well. Combined with an inline 6-cylinder engine, the AMG GLE 53 produces 536hp and will be good to 60 in 4.6 seconds. The interior looks identical to the current GLE model.
While it's a bit unusual to announce a new model 2 years in advance, the AMG GLE 53 with its big battery looks like an exciting addition to the GLE lineup.
